Rising Pop Star Alus to Open up for Big Sean

Big Sean has been in every headline lately but the headline we are excited about is that the newest face in Pop and R&B, Alus is going to be his opening act next month. Straight off the heels of opening up Roc Nation's throne boxing tournament with a moving rendition of our national anthem, Alus is practicing for her big night with Big Sean at Princeton. We've been smitten by the East-Coast's latest power vocalist ever since she dropped her single "Ordinary Girl" last year  Far from an ordinary artist, Alus is a true musician and writer who plays the piano and guitar. The Jersey native is a triple threat who is already bagging endorsement deals and partnerships with the likes of Andy Hilfiger, Shape Magazine and Angel Professional Paris. Despite all of this, Alus says her priority is music and completing her EP.  "Music is my life and I feel fortunate to be able to share my love, my pain, my struggles and experiences with my fans through my songs.  My fans have become my support system and my army leading me to conquer my dreams," say Alus.

Alus walked in Andy Hilfiger's fashion show yesterday and she said Hilfiger has been a blessing.  "I always loved Tommy Hilfiger growing up I admire Andy Hilfiger. Andy works with all the major stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Aerosmith, Paris Hilton and for him to be working with me in such an early stage in my career is humbling and exciting.  I feel very lucky  I have a great team around me," shares Alus.

When it comes to fashion and beauty, Alus says inner beauty is the most important aspect of being beautiful.  As far as her beauty must haves, Alus says "I have to  have a great perfume, good moisturizer, and a popping lipstick!"  Alus recently released an acoustic version of her "Ordinary Girl" and we love the rawness of her vocals and the fact that she doesnt' need a huge production to shine as an artist.

you can soon check out "Ordinary Girl" (acoustic here).  So come back soon.  follow Alus on IG & Twitter on @alusofficial

We bring you inspiration for the new manicure trend- stiletto trend. Though stiletto nails have been recently highlighted in the fashion world due to celebrities like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Fergie sporting the design.

Ashely Judd powerful essay condemning violence against women

Ashley Judd has taken on violence against women in a big way after she said she experienced misogynist hatred online.  The Insurgent actress opened up about her own experience with rape in a powerful essay published on on Thursday, Mar. 19, amid her current fight against Internet trolls.

Ashley Judd has written a powerful essay condemning violence against women in response to the terrible online comments. In the essay, she takes a stand against not only gender-based verbal violence online, but also violent actions, recalling her own devastating experiences of incest and being raped twice.

On Mar. 17, she told NBC News that she would be pressing charges.

"What happened to me is the devastating social norm experienced by millions of girls and women on the Internet. Online harassers use the slightest excuse (or no excuse at all) to dismember our personhood," she wrote. "My tweet was simply the convenient delivery system for a rage toward women that lurks perpetually. I know this experience is universal, though I'll describe specifically what happened to me."

of being a woman who dared to share an opinion about a sports team — or anything — on the Internet. After she tweeted her thoughts on the play, she said, “Tweets rolled in, calling me a c–t, a whore or a bitch, or telling me to suck a two-inch d–k. Some even threatened rape, or ‘anal anal anal.’”

Judd then recalled her own past, and explained why she won't stand by the abuse any longer — and neither should anyone else.

"I am a survivor of sexual assault, rape and incest. I am greatly blessed that in 2006, other thriving survivors introduced me to recovery. I seized it. My own willingness, partnered with a simple kit of tools, has empowered me to take the essential odyssey from undefended and vulnerable victim to empowered survivor," Judd wrote. "Today, nine years into my recovery, I can go farther and say my 'story' is not 'my story.' It is something a Higher Power (spirituality, for me, has been vital in this healing) uses to allow me the grace and privilege of helping others who are still hurting, and perhaps to offer a piece of education, awareness and action to our world."

This abnormal obsession with women’s faces and bodies has become so normal that we (I include myself at times—I absolutely fall for it still) have internalized patriarchy almost seamlessly. We are unable at times to identify ourselves as our own denigrating abusers, or as abusing other girls and women.

Who makes the fantastic leap from being sick, or gaining some weight over the winter, to a conclusion of plastic surgery? Our culture, that’s who. The insanity has to stop, because as focused on me as it appears to have been, it is about all girls and women. In fact, it’s about boys and men, too, who are equally objectified and ridiculed, according to heteronormative definitions of masculinity that deny the full and dynamic range of their personhood. It affects each and every one of us, in multiple and nefarious ways: our self-image, how we show up in our relationships and at work, our sense of our worth, value, and potential as human beings. Angela Simmons's Foofi Faux Fur Line Launch

Angela Simmons, daughter of Joseph Simmons (better known as Reverend Run of RUN-D.M.C.) and niece of Russell —  Models pose at the launch event for FOOFI By Angela Simmons at  the Manhattan’s Gansevoort Hotel.

Simmons, a vegetarian and PETA supporter, said she stopped wearing fur years ago after researching the way animals were treated .

Love the look of  fur, but worry about being cruelty-free? Go faux!

The 23-piece collection includes outerwear, vests, hoodies and accessories made from acrylic and polyester faux fur blends sourced in China. Done in a colorful palette and finished with a floral-printed lining, the pieces range from $150 to $495 and will be sold primarily online.  It’s for the New York City girl on-the-go; chic but playful and fun,” she said. “Something that can bring you to work, play, evening

“Modern fake fur looks so much like real fur, that moment it leaves the atelier no one can tell it’s not the real thing.  The decision certainly makes good business sense.  Vegan fashion on the rise as people are looking more for conscious clothing; basically, faux fur is - finally- no longer a faux paus.

It’s a fashion move of which we’re sure that even PETA will approve.

August Getty F/W NYFW 15

The models mastered these amazing looks on the runway with an all-natural face, no accessories and their hair was slicked back. A few front row VIP attendees spotted were Whoopi Goldberg, Shaun Ross, Jerzey Dean, Sophie Simmons, Kristin Cavallari and Shanola Hampton.

Art Institute Fall/Winter show NYFW 15

MBFW Fall 2015: Art Institute

By Jia Wertz of Studio 15

The Art Institute Fall 2015 Student Show highlighted the designs of 12 students who

competed against other Ai students for the chance of a lifetime: to present their

collection at New York Fashion Week. To my surprise, the one person that stole the

show wasn’t a designer, it was Megan Silcott, a young woman who opened the show by

walking down the runway using a walker.

Megan woke up on the morning of August 16, 2012 unable to move, she was diagnosed

with a rare neurological disorder, and was paralyzed form the neck down. Since then,

Megan has been recovering in ways that doctors thought to be impossible. And less than

three years later, she walked the full length of a very long runway at New York Fashion

Week. Megan is determined to fully recover and and pursue her dream of acting or a

career in fashion. I have no doubt that this determined woman will get there. Watching

her walk the runway was astonishing, and clearly the entire audience thought so; they

gave her a standing ovation.

The designs ranged from beautiful to strange, as all shows do at fashion week, but each

one artistic in their own way. Jesus Romero, a student from San Francisco, created his

line with Marlene Dietrich as an inspiration, and it was stunning. The gorgeous flowing

fabrics were constructed in unique yet wearable pieces. What more could a woman ask

for? Romero was definitely the highlight of this show.

Fifty Shades of Grey not about fun sex games - It's abuse

Whoever hasn't read the book or saw the movie, I will briefly note that the plot tells the story of literature student Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson), who falls into the net of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), a tormented billionaire whose relations with women are of the sadomasochistic variety. Anastasia, known as Ana, is hesitant to give in to Christian’s sexual conditions – which even include signing a contract stating what she will consent to do. But Christian is so incredibly charming, and the lifestyle he offers so lavish, and Ana – who is still a virgin – may be attracted in some way to the sexual adventures he presents. So she agrees, perhaps also with the thought that she may also be able to free him from the perversions that shape his sexual and emotional world.

Although many fans of Fifty Shades of Grey would beg to differ, a study released today says that the main characters, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, are not just in a relationship involving bondage, dominance, and sadomasochism (BDSM), their connection could also be characterized as intimate partner violence (IPV).

Millions of women around the planet believe Christian Grey is a heartthrob, but researchers from Ohio State University, Columbus, aimed to prove he is guilty of behaviors consistent with classic emotional, physical, and sexual abusers: intimidation, threats, isolation, stalking, and humiliation, as well as forced sex acts, contact against another person’s will, and sexual intimidation and pressure.

Can a Man Like Christian Grey Really Change?

In the end, Anastasia liberates him from this and brings him to true love. She is the hero."

Although the relationship begins with him affirming, “I do not do the girlfriend thing” and insisting he is a dominant looking for a submissive, many readers believe Christian Grey changes his tune by books two and three. Anastasia says she wants “more” and desires “hearts and flowers” and he says he will “try” to deliver — and many readers think he does change to become more communicative, compromising, and caring of her needs.

But the OSU researchers seem to think that millions of women have sipped of the Fifty Shades of Grey Kool-Aid. They should never trust a guy like Mr. Grey.

“Even if Christian did ‘try to change’ to ‘give her more,’ his actions are consistently abusive — including stalking Anastasia, intimidating her, isolating her from friends and family, and humiliating her,” said Bonomi. “And I raise the question—Did Christian try to change? Or did he manipulate Anastasia into thinking he was trying to change, as abusers in the 'real world' do

We cannot continue to mistake infatuation for romance, or obsession for love.

Hip Hop Artist J. Cole plan to help support single moms

At the end of 2014, J.Cole dropped his most prolific album to date — 2014 Forest Hill Drive. Titled after his childhood home in North Carolina.  Speaking with the Combat Jack show for a lengthy breakdown of his new music, childhood, and rise to success, Cole explained his experience moving from military housing to a trailer park to the single family home that graces his latest album cover. Explaining his excitement as a kid to move into the now-iconic address, Cole said he wants to give other kids that same opportunity.

“My parents separated before I was even conscious. After we moved back they were separated. When they got divorced we had to move out of the military quarters ’cause you can only live there if you’re married. That’s like real nice housing, it ain’t no mansion but it’s safe. Everybody got jobs, everybody got benefits ’cause they’re all in the Army. When I’m four years old we have to move; it’s me, my brother, and my mother and we moved to Spring Lake, a little outskirt area of Fayetteville. We moved to the trailer park in Spring Lake. It was my first taste of like, ‘Oh, shit. This is nothing like where we came from.’ I knew the energy was not right. I knew my mother was the only white lady in the neighborhood and there was no man in the house.”

My goal is to have that be a haven for families. So every two years a new family will come in, they live rent-free. The idea is that it’s a single mother with multiple kids and she’s coming from a place where all her kids is sharing a room. She might have two, three kids, they’re sharing a room. She gets to come here rent free. I want her kids to feel how I felt when we got to the house.”

“Appreciation is everything,” he also said. “Life could be both beautiful or ugly depending on how you look at it. It could be both hard and blessed. Heaven or hell. It’s all within us. The devil is in us. God is in us. All of these things are within us. It’s just how we choose to view it, it’s the decisions we make, how we decided to view it.”  It is all Beauty Within.
