Since 2005, the School of Fashion has premiered the collections of recent graduates during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. “Debuting their collections during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center is an incredible opportunity,” say's Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of Academy of Art University, “Part of our commitment to the designers is to help launch their careers and have their collections seen by industry professionals.”
And that, it did. This past Friday, the Academy of Art University presented the media and retailers with eight women’s wear collections from their best and brightest. AAU collaborated with UBIFRANCE, the French Trade Commission, to bring their French Textile Collection to New York Fashion Week’s chic American audience. As the lights dimmed, Beauty Within TV was front and center to witness the sea of silhouettes accented by subtle makeup and soft chignons. The collections ranged from structured separates to delicate argyle organza moments.

The French Textile Collection is a collaboration of four M.F.A. Fashion Design students, five B.F.A. Fashion Design students, two B.F.A. Textile Design Students, and prestigious French textile mills.

This collection kicked off the show and featured an array of floral, 1940s inspired silhouettes with a twist. They featured abstract prints that seamlessly incorporated faces onto asymmetrical dresses.
