Mike Ruiz, world-renowned photographer and Nigel Barker, former America’s Next Top Model Judge were honored by Inspired in New York on Tuesday night at the chic Toro lounge at the Smyth Hotel in historic Tribeca, New York. Ruiz and Barker were chosen to receive recognition by the honorable councilman, Ruben Wills due to their many years as innovators and trendsetters in the entertainment and art industry.
Camille Evans, founder of Inspired in New York, opened the event, announcing that Dionne Warwick, former Ambassador of Health for the Reagan administration and U.S. Ambassador of the 46664 Mandela Foundation has joined forces with Thuli Dumakude and legendary models Maria McDonald and Sandi Bass to launch a global campaign to bring awareness to women’s rights and the fight against HIV/AIDS globally with their campaign called Cover Girls for Change.
Cover Girls for Change is a platform spotting light on beauty, fashion and film industries with a global initiative for social transformations through charitable contributions and events.
Immediately after the introduction, actress Juli Piechovski from the ABC series “Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23” introduced honoree Nigel Barker. Nigel spoke about his recognition of achievement and stated that his involvement with America’s Next Top Model gave him a, “platform where people would listen to him."
Next, photographer Mike Ruiz was given a touching introduction by his partner, Martin Berusch. Mike spoke passionately about HIV/AIDS awareness, including safe sex practices and getting tested, followed by his statement, “it is incredible to be honored for something that is my duty.”
Both honorees were presented with proclamations from the city of New York.
